Hello!! Here's a short write-up to explain about this initiative.
What is ‘Do Positive’? And ‘Do Positive’ what?
Surely the most basic of English knowledge allows us to understand that Positive is an adverb and not a verb. And yet we chose this as our site name. Because we want people to ask this very same question of themselves “DoPositive What?” The longest of journeys starts with but a small step. This can be that small step. We have taken it, You can too..
This is an effort to help those amongst us who need a little help to progress in life. This is an effort to make available resources to those who need them most and have them least - the future of our country. This is an effort to create a link in our society between the haves and the ‘have nots’.
Why us?
There are a good number of organizations, groups, government agencies and NGO’s who are already working towards nurturing a better society. We know that whatever the scale of their operations, it is still not enough. We also know that every one of you is already doing your bit towards social responsibility – financially or otherwise – by extending your support to these organizations.
This effort is a little different. It is more in the NOW, it is real time. It is small in scale (atleast at present). We as a group plan to concentrate on very small problems / issues / concerns, the ones which need small but immediate effort. It is an effort to make each one of us socially responsible. Some of the activities that we are looking to help are: School students in remote regions in need of Books, Uniforms, and Footwear.
It is a tactical approach. And, we are sure you will agree that to sustain life one needs tactical help. The bigger organizations/NGOs are working with the goal of strategic/long term objectives. Hence, we plan to act as a bridge to give the much needed tactical support. We intend to be Friends In Need. We understand, this is a very small amount and will make little or rather very little difference. But, that’s the objective of this group; attend to SMALL and IMMEDIATE IMPACT concerns. This is an effort to answer the Do Positive “What” question. This is our small step towards positive thinking. And we are sure we are not alone.
How to ‘Do Positive’?
We plan to list needs which will require small sums - less than INR 5K. And, address one need at a time. A need is assessed for the potential impact it will have on the needy community and its financial requirements. Some of us will possibly visit the beneficiary and take first hand information. We will circulate the information and the members would contribute towards this need. After we have the requisite amount ready, we will work towards fulfilling the need. The remaining / surplus funds will be kept for the next requirement. And it goes on.
